For the Newly Diagnosed
Diagnosis with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes is an overwhelming and frightening experience for child and family alike. JDRF Hawaii offers resources to support you during this stressful time. Through these resources, families and individuals touched by diabetes can get practical advice and emotional support for as long as they need it.
JDRF and Accu-Chek offer a free Bag of Hope to help families learn more about diabetes management and diabetes research. These educational resources are delivered by a family in your community who has been through this experience and can share non-medical information and personal stories. Request a bag for a child (0-11 years) by calling JDRF Hawaii at (808) 988-1000.
Included in the Bag of Hope are items such as:
   * Rufus the Bear – a cuddly stuffed animal with diabetes
   * Accu-Chek Compact Blood Meter
   * Carbohydrates Counter Slide Tool
   * Diabetes books for kids and parents
